What is Marcello Gandini for Lamborghini and Leonardo Fioravanti for Ferrari, that is Tom Tjaarda for De Tomaso. Tjaarda designed 84 cars in 58 years and hasn’t stopped yet!
Tom Tjaarda (b. 1934, Detroit – USA) graduated Architecture at University of Michigan (1958). Worked as Designer for Carrozzeria Ghia (1958-60), Gabetti & Isola (1960-61), Carrozzeria Pininfarina (1961-63), Eliott Noyes (1964), Carrozzeria Pininfarina (1965-66), Fergat (1966), O.S.I. (1967), Ital Styling (1967), Ghia (1968-77) as Head of Design, Fiat (1977-81) reaching position of Director of Advanced Design Studio and as Freelancer (1982-84). In 1984 founded Tjaarda Design where he still works.
